Per our discussion in chat, I am holding this ticket pending recurrence of the issue.  This appears to be some sort of software issue causing networking trouble, resetting the ethernet interface and causing erratic response times and dropped traffic.  Services for iptables and selinux have been disabled in response to the network issue and system log notices.  If the problem recurs, we will login on console for troubleshooting and also run a set of hardware tests.
